The human voice is a wonderful and diverse instrument. It’s an art, a science, and a necessity that has been used and studied since the dawn of the human race. However, in today’s world of intense societal pressure, LGBTQ+ tensions, and issues of gender identity, the voice can morph from this beautiful instrument into monstrous insecurity, doubt, and self-hatred.
Voice training- as we will use it- is the process of training the transgender voice to be gender affirming. This blog is all about the trans voice: learning to use it, learning to teach it, and learning to let it truly sing.
My name is Emily Rose Campbell, and this is Trans Voce. Throughout this blog, I'll be training different voices in classical singing technique and writing about the singers' journeys through transition as well as covering important LGBTQ+ topics and addressing transgender issues through a teaching lens. Over all else, I strive to bring to light the magnificence of the voice, and to help singers everywhere let their voices feel beautiful again.
